DESCRIPTION
Rolex launched the Oyster Perpetual Explorer in 1953 to celebrate the victorious ascent of Everest. Ever since, the Rolex Explorer has become a synonymous of a watch that can withstand extreme conditions.
The reference 1016 was presented ten years later and remained in production until 1990, when it was replaced by the reference 14270.
The present example features an extraordinary and rare 'Tropical' dial - because of long exposure to sunlight, among other influences, the originally black dial gained these unique gradients.
