The reference 3970 was introduced in 1986 as the third generation of Patek Philippe's renowned perpetual chronograph series. This reference is the heir to legendary 2499, inheriting its distinct case design with elegantly sculpted lugs. However, it is slightly more compact than its predecessor, with a diameter of 36 mm, placing it between the 35 mm of reference 1518 and the 37 mm of reference 2499.
